Are you suffering from every graduate’s worst nightmare? “The Uncertainty”. Future
Blues. As the days to final goodbyes approach, the scare-factor goes up in direct proportion. When I Googled about this phenomena and I ended up on some mixed n’ interesting responses. Like:
“My fear isn’t about finding a job. It’s more about lifestyle. I’d hate to be a 9-5 girl right now, where your co-workers will be your co-workers for years whether you like them or not”.
An enthusiast (probably a-wanna-be-an-entrepreneur) shared his fears:
“I know perfectly well the direction I want to take. But even with everything figured out, I’m confused if any organization will be able to utilize my capabilities well. Or should I already start planing for my own venture.”
Yet another seems to suffer from the misery of worry and wastage:
“I spent a lot of time worrying during mt last semesters . Instead of being scared, I should have been on Internet looking for a job.”
DO you already feel relating to them? When I think about it I do see striking similarities ^_^ in that particular time-frame and mind-set. Life’s a constant up-hill battle; you remain constant and the intensities vary. To rise as a victor, enlisted are few vital points you may be looking for:
Job & Career: The Difference
Before you plunge into the practical life, ensure you know the difference between job and career. Job is that certain set of activities you perform to accomplish certain goals (may or may not be satisfying). While, from career you not only get progress in your professional selection (read: job), it gives you pleasure and satisfaction at heart. Something that won’t ever bore you. You stay imaginative, innovative and as a result creative.
I may have darkened up the Job part here BUT it’s essentially important for you to give your career, your passions a thought. Go in the right direction. No one will make a choice for you; you have to take the decision yourself. Analyze your pros and cons; scribble them down, and start applying
Never Wait till You Reach the Finish Line: Job Hunting
A usual approach wrongly adopted. Why wait until the final exams for job hunting?? Try to volunteer yourself for an internship during the summer breaks or even
2-weeks winter breaks. It not only boosts your morale but plays a vital role in exploration of your abilities and aptitude towards different career paths in the same field. You step into the industry and mark my words that counts.
Start registering yourself on different job portals. Make a round of different software houses ; submit your CV’s. Indulge in a quick-chat with HR Managers; get to know about office processes and show your willingness to play your part in the larger picture.
Everyone puts in lots of blood, sweat, and tears during academic years; let spill some more in job hunting.
Create a CV: That Speaks for Itself
The web is full of tips & tricks to make your CV better, appealing for the recruiters and not cluttered. grooming tricks during your scholastic time but its never too late. Dress well. Practice your public speaking skills. Feel good about yourself; become well-prepared for the combat you are taking dive in.
Highlight your pros, experiences, major expertise. But remember don’t show-off
Don’t write what your buddies have essentially written.

No no no, Forget the CS-527 Computer Networks course you took. Personal relationships and referrals matter when you will take plunge in job searches. If you are taken in by a company (that satisfies your demands somewhat), never cut the networking wires of. They WILL help you throughout your career glitches.

Spare Time: What’s That?
There’s no such thing as “Spare Time”. Name it “Wasting Time”. Don’t lean towards depressive activities while waiting for the right job. Everything takes its time. Utilize the time well and effectively.
Enroll yourself in different workshops or seminars (Networking helps here
) Try to learn more about the particular field you want to enter in. Get an idea of Industry standards and ways to equip yourself with them.
